Final Project!
Economics Final Project: Economics in the Real World
Your task: Create a “home page” for the business section one of the major media outlets.
Procedure:
1. Go through your notebook and quickly review the major topics that we have covered this semester. Do not forget the 10 principles of economics in chapter 1. You might even consider making a list of the main ideas.
2. Search the web, newspapers, TV, any news outlet that you can think of for current news stories that deal with any of the topics that we have covered in economics. The Planet Money series at npr.org is a great resource!
3. Select 4-5 of the current events that most interest you or seem to have the most to do with things that we have talked about this semester.
4. Write YOUR version of these news events as if you were the business-economics editor for a major media outlet. You must explain the basic nature of the news item and IN YOUR OWN WORDS explain what economic principle that it demonstrates. These do not need to be pages long news stories. They should be brief summaries of the current event and the principle that they display.
5. Using Noodle Tools, create a citation page on which you cite where you got your stories and any other information that you may need to write your reports.
6. Create a home page for the business section. Identify which media outlet of which you are a part. You can create a company if you would like or use a real one like the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Yahoo, The Daily Beast, etc. Use images, attention-grabbing headlines, links to video….please be creative here! Your stories will be the content of the page.
7. Email me your completed webpage by 3:00 on Tuesday, May 16th.
Evaluation:
You will be evaluated on:
1. How accurately your stories describe the actual details of the current event
2. How well your stories draw a link between the news item and an economic principle that we have studied.
3. How well your story demonstrates your grasp of these economic principles.
4. How well your stories are written. (That means issues like grammar, syntax, spelling, proofreading!)
5. How cool your webpage looks.
6. How thorough and accurate your citation is.
7. Is it on time?
This project will count for 20% of your final grade.
